Steak’n Shakes – Yes or Nah

Steak ‘n Shake

8100 Veterans Hwy

Millersville, MD 21108

Grand Opening is still happening as the 24hr fast food restaurant opened and our first time going June 26 @3pm. Okay, the line is down the street but we’re actually up front were we can see the building. Oh, these burgers have got to be good if the line is like this, people fighting for parking spaces, and everyone’s hanging outside waiting for available indoor seating. Some people we noticed parked in the liquor store lot across the street and walked over.

  • All you can eat pancakes $3.99
  • 1/2 priced Happier Hour weekdays 2-5pm
  • Weekends kids eat FREE
  • Steakburger Snack pack $2.89

Background History

Steak ‘n Shake was founded in February, 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Gus Belt, Steak ‘n Shake’s founder, pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milk shakes. For over 80 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for STEAKBURGER. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped MILK SHAKES. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. To prove his point that his burgers were exceptionally prime, he would wheel in a barrel of steaks (including round, sirloin, and T-bones) and grind the meat into burgers right in front of the guests. Hence arose the origin of our famous slogan, “In Sight It Must Be Right.” After 80 years, we are continuing Steak n Shake’s tradition of serving the country’s best, freshest, and tastiest burgers and shakes.

I started taking pictures of my limited viewing area, we finally get closer to the front of the building, and a staff member goes: car to car passing out their $4 menus. Weekdays 1/2 priced happier hour on shakes & drinks.. Discounts I LOVE IT! There’s  7 more cars ahead of us, we get to the intercom, and order:

  • Double steakburger w/cheese & fries (all fixings)
  • Double bacon cheeseburger w/fries & coke (all fixings)
  • Chocolate chip cookie dough shake
  • Orange freeze shake
  • Total $14.12

We pay and found another spot to eat.

I bit into my double cheese steakburger…honestly wondering if this is real meat because it tastes comparable to a Checkers burger or McDonalds burger. Not impressed at all. The shake taste like Chick-fil-A shakes. Boyfriend ordered his burger minus tomatoes, it came with them, so I ate his tomatoes, but his fries were lukewarm. For the fries you can get better elsewhere, not much salt, and there thin.

I know why we were content on sitting in that long drive-thru line because it’s brand new and we assumed food would be the next best thing since Bobby Flay burger hit the casino or better than homemade. It’s neither – go to Burger King you can get your food quicker and not all this false hype.

Try it if you’d like too and share your experience. Certain menus is under $4 so it’s cheap eats, can’t say it’s quick, it’s 24hrs, but you know what this means on a Friday & Saturday night. Give it time but you’ll see this will become the newest hang out spot for fights & drama. I know this area very well, hopefully it won’t happen, but it’s 24hrs, and the liquor store is across the street. Close access to the highways…just saying
Well thanks for reading and have a great day
